Kentucky Derby

Connections

  • Caspian won the Kentucky Derby disguised as a horse

Context

The Kentucky Derby is an annual horse race held on the first Saturday in May in Louisville, Kentucky. It goes by other names as well: Run for the Roses (because roses are draped over the winner) and the Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports (because it takes about that much time for the race to be run).

This race is the first of three races that make up the American Triple Crown, with the other two being the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. These three races have run every single year (in spite of the Great Depression or the World Wars) since 1875. How Caspian could have won the Kentucky Derby as a horse is beyond me, but we can know for sure that he was alive on Earth in 1875 or later.
