Welcome to the Brawlhalla Lore Site!

  • Are you aware of the meaning behind Azoth's name, or Thatch's, or Ada's
  • Have you ever wondered where or what Thera is?
  • Is the Fangwild Forest really the Brawlhalla version of Yggdrasil
  • Do we have any clue regarding the connection between Baron and Josh Von Evilstein?
  • Is there really a familial connection between Sir Roland and Brynn?
  • Is sword and spear really an accurate weapon pairing for a ninja like Hattori?
  • Is Nix really female? (Yes, yes she is.)
Welcome to Brawlhalla: Lore & Context! A fan-made website that focuses on the lore of Brawlhalla and the cultural/historical context behind that lore. I have been continually working on and updating this site since I started the project in August 2018. For more information about this site, check out some of the pages linked in Miscellany.

If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to contact me! You can find my information on my About page.

Why a Lore Site?

My hope for this site is to provide a place to compile all possible connections and relationships found in a careful reading of Brawlhalla's in-game lore entries, perhaps provide a few theories, and to provide historical and cultural context to what we read in the lore. Throughout my work on this site, I'm keeping two adjectives in mind: comprehensive & user-friendly. I want this to be the go-to place for all information regarding Brawlhalla lore. I also want to ensure that people can navigate the site easily (I accomplish this mostly by keeping everything linked together for easy navigation).

The focus of most online discussion about Brawlhalla is its mechanics and gameplay, but what I'm really interested in is the lore of the game. I (and many other fans) have noticed that most characters' lore pages reference some of the same places and events, and even other legends. It is primarily this lore that has kept me so interested and engaged with what has now become my favorite fighting game!

Now, as a labor of love and enthusiastic fandom, I've put together this lore site as a resource for those curious fans who enjoy (or are merely curious about) the lore of Brawlhalla. I hope to be able to provide every connection, and even approximated timelines and maps, based solely on the official lore pages and other hints found within the game. The individual lore pages in the game may appear unassuming, but there is so much to unpack there!

In addition to the lore itself, I am very curious about the historical/mythological context behind all this backstory. After reading through the lore a couple times, I felt that the developers and writers at Blue Mammoth Games aren't just making everything up. It seems like they're deliberately taking real myth, folklore, and history to add great flavor and humor to their game. My research aims to find the inspiration behind the legends and each aspect of their lore.

Thank you for visiting Brawlhalla: Lore & Context! I hope you enjoy learning about the lore as much as I have!

All the best!

**Note (Mar. 7, 2019): This site got a shoutout from someone in the lore team at BMG! I think I've finally made it!

**Note (Jan. 6, 2020): Oh, did I mention I'm an official Brawlhalla Partner??? The support I get from the community, and now from BMG itself, is incredible!

    5. To earn a Metadev, do one of the following:

      1. Meet a dev in person (hence the name "Metadev")
      2. Get lucky in a giveaway

  3. Thank you for this! This is exactly the kind of work that has prevented me from continuing to wrote fan-fiction for this game that I evidently no longer have to dread doing (that and distractions...and stress). So yeah. Fun :).

  8. ok i'm really impressed with how extensive this site is! a lot of other sites i visit when i want to gorge myself on obscure lore don't highlight the connections between characters to different places and events (possibly because they're 'official' lore sites hosted by the creators and want people to dig through and make notes themselves? anyways) so really it was a breath of fresh air that this site is so well-maintained in that regard! really awesome work mr dipitous sir i owe you my life and sanity

  9. What do you think about the current state of the brawlhalla lore? Not in the sense of how good it is, but how BMG is exploring it, because the only evidence of lore in the game is just 3 to 5 paragraphs in a section that people most don't go or even see. Also i love the site, good job!

    1. It's not only in the "Meet the Legends" section, you have some lore in battle pass, in store, skins and their descriptions (tho not every skin is canon, they might point out later on wich ones are) and maps, too. Also not in-game they have special text for every legend that the post when rotation changes + trailers have some lore ofc, too. There is some lore even in old update posts on steam and their page.
But yea there is nearly no exploration of the story at all in the game actually.

    2. Yes like Sentinel is mentioned as being a president, so the "President Sentinel" skin makes sense, and I would consider it having to do with lore, where as "Annihilator Azoth"(terminator) would be an example of a non-cannon skin? is this correct?

      Delete
    3. I guess yeah, although personally I think there might be kind of a thing that some of skins can represent a different being that existed in the universe of Brawlhalla (somehow similiar to the legend on wich the skin is) rather than the Legend itself, like the mecha/cybernetic skins - I imagine those could be creations of for example MBFC, wich were based on the Legends who existed in the past, so technically those could still be "canon", but just are a different characters

  12. Hello, I just wanted to say that I’ve been following Norse mythology for a while, even going as far as to learning old Norse or “íslenska”, Hállo! Þú ert leikur!, I just wanted to say that with this website I’ve been piecing together a lot of theories I had when I started to read the meet the legends lore, a few theories like is brynn brynhildr or when is ragnarök happening and is there gonna be jormangandr since we got the mention of the world serpent in Thor’s lore. So, thank you for the knowledge!
