- As Artemis traversed the dangers of the universe, she careened through the Tri-Nova, ending Lance Starchampion's fleet, and imploding the Leviathan of Eons
Context
Originally, the leviathan was a sea monster, referenced several times in the Bible, often used to describe the powers of evil and how God would subdue it. This leviathan is often compared to similar legends from other cultures, including Thor slaying the giant serpent Jormungand. The leviathan is also a continuation of a giant sea serpent creature (Lotan) from an earlier civilization. Now, the word "leviathan" is used to refer to any giant sea creature.Does all this mean that the Leviathan of Eons from Artemis's lore is just some giant underwater creature? Not entirely. I think it is a great, old creature that has lived in space for...well...eons. My theory is that this creature is a giant space monstrosity (creatures from the Cthulhu mythos come to mind). This idea is further supported by the fact that a lot of science fiction includes empires and other groups with a fleet of ships that make up a navy in outer space. Spaceships and fleets are often structured based on sea-faring vessels, so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch for a leviathan (generally considered a sea creature) to be found in the vast, empty "ocean" that is outer space. It just so happened to be unfortunate enough to be in the way of Artemis that one time.
