Not only did
Betilla the Fairy explain Rayman's origins, she and her sisters were the ones who created Rayman in the
Primordial Forest to act as the protector of the
Glade of Dreams. She may be called a fairy, but she calls herself and her sisters
nymphs, which I suppose in the Rayman setting means about the same thing.
