- One of Sir Roland's myriad titles is "Defender of the Danes"
Context
"Danes" is the word used for inhabitants of Denmark. In the first millenium or so AD, it was also used to refer to "vikings" in general. It should be noted that "vikings" is more of what they did (raiding, plundering, etc.) while "Danes" shows their place of origin (Denmark, Scandinavia in general).Whatever Sir Roland did to help the Danes out, he wouldn't be the only one to claim that title. Beowulf is often called "defender of the Danes" due to his heroic deeds (defeating Grendel and Grendel's mother). Either Sir Roland did something more amazing and heroic than Beowulf, or Beowulf didn't exist in the Brawlhalla version of earth, and Sir Roland took his place. Either way, that's impressive!
