Orcus

Connections

  •  Orcus is one of Nix's many clients

Context

In Italic and Roman mythology, Orcus was a god of the underworld, specifically a punisher of broken oaths. Orcus could also be a word for the underworld itself, and is sometimes combined with the concepts of other similar gods like Pluto, Hades, or Dis Pater. Over time, Orcus became associated with demons and other evil creatures. That's probably why in Dungeons & Dragons and other fantasy settings, Orcus is one of the most powerful demon princes in the Abyss, and is shown to have a ram's head, bat-like wings, a long tail, and a large humanoid body, armed with (among other things) a skull-tipped wand with the power to kill any living creature.
