Context

Everyone knows Poseidon, right? Greek god of the sea, brother of Zeus, father of several giants & monsters (including Charybdis). Perhaps in the Brawlhalla universe, Poseidon is the father (or at least the caretaker) of the Kraken, but this is unfounded in real Greek mythology. Many know Poseidon from the Illiad (in which he supported the Greeks against the Trojans in the Trojan War) and the Odyssey (in which he gets mad at and curses Odysseus for blinding his son Polyphemus the cyclops). Apart from being the god of the sea, Poseidon is also the god of earthquakes, soil, storms, and horses.

Poseidon has a lot of children. Here are a couple sources. The Kraken wasn't found on that list (supporting the earlier statement about the Kraken), but seeing that Poseidon's offspring includes giants and monsters, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for the Poseidon in this Brawlhalla universe to have children like that. As for the "Maelstrom" in Mako's lore, that is likely a reference to Charybdis.

Greek mythology is full of family drama, so it wouldn't be surprising for there to be beef between Zeus and Poseidon. That being said, a story that matches Thatch's divine backstory doesn't seem to exist in Greek mythology (as always, happy to be proven wrong). 

Speaking of family, Thatch's and Mako's lore mentions that Poseidon married "the sea." Who is that a reference to? That is unclear, especially since Poseidon had so many consorts. Gaia (or Gaea) is the mother of Charybdis, but she represents the earth, not the sea. Perhaps a better answer is Amphitrite, who actually became known as the queen or goddess of the sea in Greek mythology. Whoever it is, we hear of no other wives for Poseidon in Brawlhalla lore other than "The Sea," so as of now it is possible to assume Poseidon and the Sea are the parents of the Kraken, Maelstrom/Charybdis, & Mako.
