Sphinx of Alexandria

Connections

  • Nix dropped the ancient Sphinx of Alexandria off at Anubis' door

Context

Alexandria is the second-largest city in Egypt (after Cairo), and was founded in 332 BC by Alexander the Great. It was (and is) best known for its wonders: the Lighthouse at Alexandria, its Great Library, and the Necropolis. There seems to be no Sphinx directly associated with Alexandria, however.

Why, then, was a sphinx dropped off at Anubis's front door? Smart speculation and evidence (explained on this site) suggests that the famous Sphinx at Giza used to be a depiction of Anubis himself, before a pharaoh many years later had it altered to bear his likeness. If this is true, perhaps Anubis has a thing against sphinxes?

Or, a more simple explanation could be that it's Anubis's job to lead souls to the judgement hall of his father, Osiris.
