Anubis

Connections

Context

Anubis, in Egyptian mythology, is the god of the dead and, specifically, of the embalming process. At one point (during the Old Kingdom of Egypt), he was the god of the dead, but by the Middle Kingdom (around the time Mirage was in Ancient Egypt) he became known as the illegitimate son of Osiris, the god of death and rebirth. At this point, Anubis became not only the god of embalming, but also the one to lead souls to his father, Osiris for judgement.

Why, then, did a sphinx get dropped off at Anubis' front door? Either Anubis has a thing against sphinxes, or that's just the spot to put souls who need to meet Osiris, because Anubis has the job of leading them there.
