Connections
- Deep in the woods, Yumiko fought the witch Ukionna and broke the bond between Yumiko's world and the twisted forest (the Fangwild) corrupting her land
Context
This must be a reference to yuki-onna, a kind of spirit (or yokai) from Japanese literature. The name means "snow woman" in Japanese. There are a couple of good sources out there if you want to learn more about this and other yokai, but the point is that a yuki-onna is a sort of ice ghost. Depending on who you talk to, they can steal heat, freeze you solid, and feed on a human's life force. There are stories of yuki-onna marrying human men only to melt away when they're found out.In Yumiko's lore, it seems like Ukionna is the name of a specific witch, but even if she's not a yuki-onna, her name still sounds like the Japanese phrase for "snow woman," which could certainly refer to a witch character (Elsa from Frozen is a snow woman, right?)
