Edasich

Connections

  • As a young witch, Fait would hang out with the stars at night, who gave her fleeting visions of past, present, and future; in daylight, Fait made ends meet selling fortunes on the streets of Edasich

Context

It may (or may not) surprise you to learn that Edasich is the name of a star in the night sky. Specifically, the "iota" star on the constellation Draco (Edasich is the star marked by the little "i"). These sites give some more info about Edasich, also known as "Iota Draconis." The name Edasich comes from an Arabic term that means "male hyena." As a star, Edasich is nearly 12 times as big as our sun, is 1.15 billion years old, and is over 101 light years away from our sun.

In 2002, it was discovered that there was a planet orbiting Edasich. In the end of 2015, through a public nomination and voting process, that planet got the name Hypatia, after a famous Greek astronomer, mathematician, and philosopher.

Apart from sharing a name, there seems to be no connection in the lore between the town young Fait lived in, and the star called Edasich.
