Lore

The Star Speaker

"Such was the terrifying power of the great witch Fait that she could command the stars themselves to disclose their most guarded secrets and reveal mortal destiny."

—Grimblast's Codex of Illustrious Witches and Oracles

"Well, I have my witch friends and I have my star friends. With my witch friends, there's a lot of drama. My star friends are super chill, and we talk about everything. I can really be myself with them."

—Fait

As the story goes...

Great oracles are rare because by the time a witch has toiled through the many grueling years required to master Starspeak, they've almost certainly lost the charm and positive attitude needed for start to want to talk to them. Fait's greatest power was most likely her unwavering good-nature.

As a young witch Fait would hang out with the stars at night, who gave her fleeting visions of past, present, and future. In daylight, she made ends meet selling fortunes on the streets of Edasich. As her power grew, she learned to deduce a human's fate from the smallest visions.

But when the mighty Deathspeaker Lord Zothkhan arose, Fait transformed herself into a battlemage to oppose his monstrous army. The world soon learned just how powerful even the smallest glimpse of the future could be in battle. Her vision of the Invulnerable Pit Fiend facedown with a scythe blade buried in his weak spot spelled his doom. Her foresight of a flattened werewolf led her to lure the vampire general into Avalanche Gulch.

And a vision of a lava-scorched Lord Zothkhan in the afterlife, retrieving his beloved cat from its demon caretaker, prompted her to bring her own cat Butterscotch as a distraction to her showdown with the Deathspeaker on a bridge over Mount Inferno.

When Brynn came to offer her a place in Valhalla, Fait had already packed. In Valhalla Fait is popular, and has joined a band, a book club, and wins big on poker nights.

Connections

  • In a techno-fantasy euro pop band with Ada, Isaiah, and Ulgrim
  • Jaeyun regrets teaching Fait how to play tujeon.

Context

Fait is the witch of Brawlhalla, but also arguably the "magical girl" as well. Oh, let's not forget "crazy cat lady" either. Fait's arrival in Valhalla was anticipated by fans ever since Isaiah's lore revealed that he was in a band with Ada, Ulgrim, and a then-unknown person named Fait. In the days leading up to her arrival, Ada helped Fait hack into the official Brawlhalla Twitter page. There, Fait shared several images of herself, her cat, and her band members. She even interacted with lots of fans, proudly showing that "charm and positive attitude" until she left Twitter after Jan. 29th to get ready for her official arrival the next day. Here are some more awesome posts Fait made during her "reign" on Brawlhalla's Twitter. Here's two more posts made after Fait was released.

What kind of witch uses a scythe and orb to attack? Well, Fait does! Her orb is clearly a crystal ball, matching well with her clairvoyant abilities. The scythe is mentioned in her lore, but even more importantly, its blade is curved like a moon shape! Why wouldn't the Starspeaker have such an astrologically-appropriate weapon?

  1. You didn't mention her connection with Xull and Scarlett through the book club.

    1. Fait's lore only says she's involved in "a" book club. It's not officially known which book club that is. It COULD be Scarlet's, but I'm not sure.

  2. You didnt mention that lord zothkhan is a rename of azoth as hinted in his demon caretaker (hattori) for his cat

    2. I do try to be very thorough about every aspect of the lore on this site. I'm glad you were able to find the information about "Lord Zothkhan." :)

    3. I did notice that Azoth's page wasn't linked here. I've just fixed that. :)

  3. Do we know if Fait is her first name or title?

  4. My assumption is that it is her first name because:

    * Fait is not spelled Fate which is unlike other titles like Mirage and Sentinel - Orion, on the other hand, breaks the rule but Orion phonetically is not a word either.
    * People do name their children that have meaning like Crystal, Scarlet, Rose, Ruby etc. But if you misspell them then it becomes even more apparent Krystal, Scarlett.
    * Fait The Star Speaker indicates that Fait is her first (and possibly only name) whereas Star Speaker is her title.

  5. First of all I think this whole thing is great!

You could also add that she defeated 3 characters:
    Azoth: under the name Zothkan

Probably Mordex: killed a Werewolf with the title "vampire General", probably due to the corruption of the exalted lion under him

Invincible Pit fiend: It sound like it could be the new GS/hammer legend that's coming out, but I guess we'll have to wait to find out.
